Once the crisis is over we are hoping to put on some special events which will help raise morale and funds for struggling charities.
Recently we have given £1,200 to the South London branch of MNDA which are really struggling to provide help to families facing this terrible diagnosis during lockdown. We've also offered funds to The Furzedown Project to help them reopen safely and Furzedown Youth Group and are helping Penworthan Junior School create an urban garden in their playground to open in 2021. We hope that we can find a local event to sell our lovely half-price Heyland & Whittle goodies for Christmas. We now have a card reader - this is available for any local groups or charities to borrow - please get in touch!
Our events and support from businesses like The Rose & Crown have all helped make this success possible. And Heyland & Whittle (who used to live in Furzedown) donate their wonderful products it means 100% of what we sell goes to local charities.
We are always looking for new sponsors, raffle prizes and people to help join the fundraising fun!
For donating their wonderful handmade gifts for us to sell and use as prizes
Who have made us their local charity partner
Who has made us their Charity Partner.
For sponsoring events like Arthur Smith Comedy Night and great prizes
It's wonderful to get support like this from friends and local businesses! Can you help provide us with more prizes for future raffles and special events?
Looking forward to better times...
This crisis has put a stop to our fundraising events but we know a lot of local charities are really struggling.
We have created a special #justgiving page for those who'd like to support our local South London MNDA branch who have been particularly affected by this crisis:
Local artist Sue Pearson has created this lovely little lockdown story 'Toots & the 'New Normal' to colour-in and enjoy, please download and print out HERE.
Who we're helping...
We are helping Penworthan Junior School create an Urban Garden in 2021. In 2019 we built a set of five big planters to enhance the bare playground of Faylands, a local child care facility
Stuart, who makes the lovely Furzedown Window boxes which are for sale at The Big Day Out, has designed and hand-made these fantastic wooden planters, in which the toddlers and their families are enjoying growing flowers, fresh fruit and vegetables - a fun and delicious way to learn about healthy eating and where food comes from!
Our neighbour Gareth died from MND so we're raising money for the local South London Motor Neurone Disease Association that helped him and his family.
We are helping The Furzedown Youth Club and supporting their new after-school drop-in initiative. Also paid for a First aid course, indoor activities and bought a vacuum cleaner.
Thanks to Furzedown, St George's Hospital are providing a special chill-out area for young people undergoing cancer treatment
We have helped the local Multiple Sclerosis group set up a special chair-based weekly yoga class in Wandsworth
We have provided planters for a local nursery playground
As well as sponsoring their minibus, we have provided The Furzedown Project with a life-saving defibrillator and media resources to enhance their fitness programmes and community talks plus ongoing support for their website.
We have paid to train four specialist swimming volunteers for handicapped children in Wandsworth
We supported a half-term cookery course at The Graveney Canteen
We also make regular donations to Furzedown Foodbank for items not donated
and to Teens Unite.
We've fundraised for St George's Hospital to create a much needed area for YOUNG PEOPLE WITH CANCER; local fundraising initiatives have helped us reach the target!
