The Women's Garden Project
FACE is sponsoring a wonderful local initiative that's helped women with a refugee background living in our area.
The Women’s Garden Project at Tooting Community Garden offers weekly social activities for women on Thursday lunchtimes, 11:30am to 1:30pm - a friendly environment to learn new skills and enjoy this beautiful garden.
In 2021 the project began by helping vulnerable women of a refugee and asylum seeker background - many of them living in a hotel room, in a ‘refugee bubble’ who found it hard to integrate into the community, so being able to access a safe, tranquil and beautiful green space every week and enjoy different activities, helped their wellbeing enormously. They were very proud share their produce and part in last year’s Foodival in Tooting.
Now the project is also open to all local women of all backgrounds.
As well as light gardening there will be different creative activities, using produce and inspiration from the garden and no gardening knowledge is required - it's more about making friends, social inclusion, a sense of community and improved wellbeing. FACE is also helping them promote their open days, activities and fundraising events over the year for all the community.
